A Journey Towards Enhanced User Experience and Empowering Event Creation
PrivateClub, an event-hosting platform, recently underwent a redesign to enhance the overall user experience. This case study describes the journey of a solo designer who worked on the project, with a focus on addressing key usability issues and transforming the platform within a tight timeframe.
DURATION
July 2023 - Jan 2024
Role: Research, Information architecture, UX/UI design, Prototype
PROCESS
RESEARCH
I initiated the project by understanding stakeholders, conducting a heuristic analysis, and realizing the need for deeper insights through market research and user interviews.
User Research:
So, here's the scoop: Our users have to jump through hoops when creating an event, and let's face it, the current process is like a never-ending marathon. It's overwhelming, time-consuming, and frankly, no one has time for that!
Market Research
DEFINE+IDEATE
Facing a tight deadline to launch PrivateClub's new feature, I collaborated with stakeholders to prioritize tasks. Redesigning information architecture, adding MVP, and improving efficiency became the core focus.
CHALLENGES - 1
How can we help our users create events with the least possible effort?
Pain Point:
Users found the event creation process overwhelming and time-consuming.
Solution: Simplifying Event Creation
Streamlined the process into two steps, focusing on essential information initially and allowing users to complete details at their convenience.
Step 1 - Initial Setup:
Introduce a pop-up modal window where users provide event image and name. This minimizes friction and speeds up the process. Users return to the event dashboard, seeing their event labeled as "Draft."
Step 2 - Completing Event Details:
Users fill in remaining event details in four sections: Basic Info, Details, Tickets, and Publish Settings. A progress bar ("Wizard Bar") aids navigation, breaking down the process for a smoother experience.
I settled down with “2 Steps Event Creation”, because:
1. Simplified event creation process
2. Reduced cognitive load
3. Visual Progress Tracking
4. Improved flexibility
Outcome: 100% completion rate for the setup process.
CHALLENGES - 2
How can we magically fill up the page without the user lifting a finger?
Pain Point:
In the initial stage of our "Simplicity process," we discovered that users favor simplicity and convenience in content creation, often neglecting to include a header image or description, resulting in incomplete pages.
Solution: AI-generated images
To address this issue, we introduced AI-generated images and pre-filled content options, accompanied by a "Suggested Summary" feature. This ensures that event details are automatically populated, overcoming the common problem of incomplete event pages, with over 50% of users skipping essential elements.
Suggest summary
Event descriptions can be up to 100 words, and sometimes users may leave them blank. To tackle this, we introduce a feature called "Suggested Summary." Using AI, it creates content based on the event name, time, and location. Users can edit this generated content, offering a convenient and swift way to craft meaningful event descriptions.
CHALLENGES - 3
How might we design a dashboard for easy club management?
Soultion: Designing a User-Friendly Dashboard
The primary goal of the 1st release is to streamline the process of club member management, offering users a comprehensive set of tools for maintaining order and facilitating effective communication within their clubs.
CHALLENGES - 4
How might we create a user-friendly invite system for varied club types?
Soultion: Simplifying Club Invitations
The goal is to create a seamless and intuitive invite system that allows club organizers to effortlessly invite users, accommodating various club types, while presenting the information in a user-friendly manner.
Translating a programmer's language to user-friendly terms can be challenging, but there is always a solution. Programmers usually explain by sharing the code link, customized based on the type of club. However, this might be confusing for users.
